Our Elementary School curriculum is structured in terms of activity and experience, rather than of knowledge to be acquired and facts to be stored.
I love IISJ because all the teachers are kind and everyone visiting the school says Your school is the best!
In English class, students are taught to hone their reading, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar skills. Furthermore, listening, speaking, and writing skills are taught in conjunction with a variety of other cognitive abilities so as to make the learning fun and not by rote.
Students engage in mathematical enquiry and problem solving through exercises that build analytical and problem solving skills. At IISJ, we go beyond rote learning and teach our students how to apply math concepts to the everyday world. A unit on money management is also included.
At the Elementary School level, students learn the fundamentals of computers and internet services, with the MS Office modules focusing on Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, and Access. Students also learn how to use KTurtle.
In social studies, students learn a variety of subjects including continents and oceans, government agencies, and agriculture and industries. Students are expected to make class presentations for specific units.
IISJ encourages an active approach to science by connecting it with the world around the students. Students are taught to actively ask questions and seek answers.
We also believe that non-academic activities make a vital contribution in helping students develop good values, foster self-confidence, and help in personality development. Toward this goal, we have developed various extra-curricular activities at IISJ with specialist teachers who excel at bringing out the best in every child and enable him/her to take pride in himself/herself.
